De voormalig voorzitter van (ISC)2 vertelt over 'The Security Skills Gap in the Cloud and Consumerisation of IT'
The 2011 (ISC)2 Global Information Security Workforce Study (GISWS), based on a survey of more than 10,000 ( 2400 in EMEA) information security professionals worldwide finds that a growing number of technologies being widely adopted by businesses are both stretching resources and challenging current security management practice. Conducted by Frost & Sullivan, the study reveals that the combined impact of new threats stemming from mobile devices, the cloud, social networking and insecure applications is stretching resources, while forcing the profession into what could be the most significant skill adjustment in its history. Looking at the statistics for cloud computing, in particular, over 50 percent of the survey's respondents (from over 120 countries) reported having private clouds in place, and over 40 percent, software as a service, yet 70 percent also said new skills were required for cloud security. At the same time, the proliferation of mobile devices and the applications on them is causing significant concern for organizations. Survey respondents reported having policies in place and technology deployed- encryption, network access control (NAC), mobile VPNs, and remote lock-and-wipe functionality are the most popular- yet still rank mobile devices as their number two concern for security as more users demand or simply find ways to use personal devices to access the corporate network. Application vulnerabilities ranked as the number one security threat to the organisation. This illustrates that there is a lot to get to grips with at a time when more and more services are highly accessible because they no longer require IT knowledge.
